Flippers - Great Feed, Not So Posh

Ok Aaron, shut up and stop ya moaning!

Aaron, you see, owns Flippers the legendary Fish Punt in Constitution Dock.  He’s also my niece’s boyfriend/partner/whatever.

So he moans about not getting a mention here – well you’re here now Aaron!

Flippers serve fresh cooked seafood all day and some nights and you can’t visit Tassie without visiting Flippers – right near Mures restaurant, on Davey St…bloody great punt tied up on the dock.

The food is, all kidding aside, just great, cheap as chips (the chips are also cheap as chips!) and well worth a visit.  If Aaron is there, tell him he owes me one!

Metz on the Bay

(03) 6224 4444

Featuring a modern Australian menu of tapas, entrees, mains, desserts, salads, drinks and ‘in-betweens’ this popular meeting spot is a Sandy Bay institution. The smoked Tasmanian salmon woodfired pizza with rocket pesto, lilliput capers and brie is to die for.  But you probably won’t die if you eat them!

Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and for breakfast on the weekends. Licensed and offering indoor and outdoor dining – nice and casual and a favourite with the trendy set.  I fit right in because I’m cool!

Abby’s Restaurant, Prospect House

1384 Richmond Road, Richmond
(03) 6260 2551

Okay, the confession.

I took my wife here on our 20th wedding anniversary because we stayed at Prospect house (that houses the restaurant).

Just 20 minutes from Hobart, nestled in the historic town of Richmond is Prospect House and Abby’s Restaurant. This fine dining restaurant has received world wide acclaim with a consistent delivery of fresh Tasmanian produce served to an international standard with friendly service.

Specializing in exquisite Tasmanian game and fine wines this superb restaurant offers it all and more. It also offers a terrific dinner and accommodation package.

There wasn’t many in the night we were there so the atmosphere was lacking a bit, but the food and service were wonderful.

Olive Restaurant and Wine Bar - Gets Rated On The Brendon Scale

38 Cambridge Rd, Bellerive
(03) 6244 4440‎

Offering a great selection of food including steaks, fish, pizza and overlooking the Derwent River and yachting marina the Olive in Bellerive is one of the Eastern Shores best kept secrets. A great selection of wines and open for lunch and dinner everyday except Monday.

I loved this joint – superb food and the waitress was terrific (by that I mean gorgeous and efficient!).

Took my wife and mother-in-law here for dinner and it’s well worth an 8/10 on the Brendon scale of goodness.
